London:
Twenty three-year-old Abdulmutallab's attempt to blow up a plane on its way to Detroit has had Britain scrambling to enhance airport security. As the Nigerian becomes the latest in a series of Muslims trying to bomb planes, a British Muslim MP Khalid Mehmood has said Muslims should not object to being racially profiled and singled out at airports for extra checks.
So far, this is a move resisted by civil liberties groups on the basis that it was unfair and discriminatory.
Now, even British Muslims for Secular Democracy (BMSD) says it would not be victimisation of the community.
"We are not supporting blanket profiling but if its intelligence led then ok," said Tehmina Qazi, BMSD.
A majority in this Muslim dominated area of Whitechapel in London still think racial profiling will mean they are being targeted for the actions of a few. Most are however reluctant to be seen on camera.
Increasingly, most people here in Britain are now seeing this as a common sense versus political correctness debate. Britain's immigration agency that scans people entering and leaving this country already profiles people of certain ethnic and religious communities. All of UK's airport operators are now in favour of passenger profiling for security and safety.
