Putin tests his mettle on Formula 1 racing car
Moscow: Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin today tested his mettle by driving a Formula 1 racing car at the speed of 240 km/ph near his hometown St Petersburg.

The Russian strongman, who has flown several types of fighter jets, a long range bomber and a fire fighting aircraft in co-pilot's seat and spent a night in a submerged nuclear submarine was shown by the TV channels getting into a yellow racing car in pilot's cockpit.

The premier put on a helmet with Russia's national emblem inscribed on it and yellow special fireproof protective suit.

Before speeding off at the recently built track Putin had received detailed instructions on how to drive the racing car.

Three racing cars - including one for the Formula 1 Grand Prix sporting logos of Renault and Lada, were put on show in St Petersburg as part of the presentation of the racing cars.

Last time Putin made history by driving a Russian yellow colour Lada Kalina sport car of the size of Maruti Zen in September along the newly built 2500 km Chita Khabarovsk Highway in the Russian Far East.
