Relief for Indian migrants in London

London:

In a relief to thousands of Indians in the UK, a court in London has said the British government cannot go back on its commitments to immigrants who came to Britain under the Highly Skilled category.

The British government had said immigrants who came to Britain under the HSMP category i.e. the Highly skilled migrant programme would be made permanent residents at the end of four years but later made retrospective changes in the law so that it would take five years to apply for permanent residency.

The judgment recognises that the British government has not honoured its commitments.

This comes as another blow to the British Home office. Just a year ago, a British judge had said retrospective changes to the HSMP were unfair and unlawful.
