Renowned author J D Salinger dies at 91

New Hampshire: The man whose novel "The Catcher in the Rye" shocked and inspired millions of readers across the world, J D Salinger died on Thursday. Renowned author Salinger was 91.

He had lived for decades in self-imposed isolation in the small, remote house in New Hampshire.

The Catcher in the Rye, with its teenage protagonist, the twisted, rebellious Holden Caulfield, was published in 1951, the dawn of modern adolescence.
