Royal inner circle hatched plan that killed Diana: report

London : An elite British soldier's face-to- face interaction with Prince William in 2008 prompted him to reveal the alleged plot hatched by Royal inner circle that led to Princess Diana's death to his wife, a report said today.

The Special Air Services (SAS) soldier, only known as Soldier N, has allegedly told his wife about the elite unit's plot to orchestrate her assassination, soon after he had taken Prince William on an SAS advanced driving course in 2008, the Sunday Mirror reported.

"It was the time that Prince William was doing some sort of SAS training in cars. He [Soldier N] had been doing some car stunts, shooting out of windows and had been showing Prince William how to do it," the woman, who has since divorced the sniper, was quoted as saying by the newspaper.

"We were talking about it and I was saying how lovely it was that Princes William and Harry were doing so well and that it was sad that their mum wasn't here to see it. Then he said one of the guys was responsible for the accident, for the death of Diana. I was shocked. I believed what he said," she added.

The woman also told detectives that her husband had claimed that the "hit" had been carried out on the orders of individuals within the Royal inner circle as they did not approve of Diana's relationship with Dodi Al-Fayed.

"He went on to tell me that it had to be done in a tunnel, that people had been monitoring them [Diana and Dodi Fayed]. A light was shone in the driver's eyes. He also said that it very nearly didn't happen. When I asked how anyone could do something like that he said, 'It's an order, a job's a job'," the woman said.

"He said that it had to happen in the tunnel to guarantee death. He said that it looked bad so they left," she added.

The woman has been interviewed by Scotland Yard after it re-opened a probe last month into the death of the Princess of Wales, killed in a car crash in Paris in 1997.

Last month, she and her mother met Metropolitan Police detectives, including a senior officer who worked on the original 'Operation Paget' investigation into Diana's death.

They reportedly gave detailed accounts about the crash which killed Diana, 36, Dodi Al-Fayed, 42, and their driver Henri Paul, 41, in a Paris underpass in 1997.
