Madrid:

Latest reports from the agencies on Wednesday say that Ferrari's former driver and race legend Michael Schumacher is set to make a Formula One comeback to replace injured Felipe Massa at the European Grand Prix.

Schumacher will race competitively for the first time since 2006 and will race an F-1 car for the first time since April 2008.

Earlier, the German and his manager were quick to rubbish these rumours. His manager Willi Webber was quoted as saying, "Whoever sits in the car at the next race in Valencia, it will not be Michael Schumacher." He added, "I am not 100 per cent sure; I am 200 per cent sure"

Ferrari reserve driver Marc Gene looks to be the most likely to take Massa's place on the grid.

In his column for the Spanish newspaper El Mundo, the Gene wrote regarding Massa: "We would even wish that he could be in Valencia, but if he is not, the important thing is that he is well. I understand that many people want to know what is in the future but right now the only thing that occupies me is my friend."

It seems that Gene is scheduled to straight-line test the F60 at the Vairano circuit on Wednesday. Other driver names doing the rounds to take Massa's seat are STR discard Sebastien Bourdais, and German racecar driver Nico Hulkenberg.
