Seven killed, 10 injured in Pak blast

Peshawar: At least seven people were killed and 10 others injured when a bomb planted in a van went off at a bus stop on the outskirts of Peshawar in northwest Pakistan on Sunday.

The explosive device was planted in a van parked at the bus stop in Mattani area of Peshawar, police said. The bus stop was crowded at the time of the blast.

Officials at the Lady Reading Hospital said they had received four bodies, including those of two children and a woman.

Two of the injured were in a serious condition. An emergency was declared in the hospital.

Security forces cordoned off the bus stop as rescue workers rushed the injured to hospital.

Footage on television showed the mangled parts of the vehicle hit by the blast lying at the bus stop, which is frequented by residents of Peshawar, Kohat and the nearby Khyber tribal region.

No group claimed responsibility for the attack.

In recent days, the Pakistani Taliban have carried out a series of attacks to avenge the killing of Osama bin Laden in a US raid in the garrison city of Abbottabad on May 2.
