Shelling in Eastern Ukraine, at Least One Dead

Donetsk: A building has been hit by rocket fire in the eastern Ukraine city of Donetsk, killing at least one person and adding to the growing number of civilian casualties in the region despite a nearly two-week-old cease-fire.

An AP reporter on Monday morning saw the remains of what appeared to be a Grad rocket that had hit the building in the north of the city, where fighting centered on the government-controlled airport has caught many residential neighborhoods in the crossfire. There was one body visible at the scene, although it was unclear if there were more casualties.

Despite the cease-fire and a law passed by the Ukrainian parliament Tuesday granting greater autonomy to rebel-held parts of the east, civilian casualties have continued to rise, adding to the estimated 3,000 people killed.
