Paris:
Crowds in Paris watched nervously on Saturday as world champion roller-skater Tag Khris attempted a new Guinness world record by jumping off the Eiffel Tower with skates on.
The 34-year old launched himself from the 40-metre (131 foot) high first floor of the famous monument onto a giant sized quarter pipe ramp built beneath it.
As he jumped he landed and skated the first few metres before then sliding down at speed into a giant air bag.
It took two attempts as Khris officially set a new 12m (39 feet) record for "dropping" - jumping off a structure and freefalling onto a landing.
"It's about achieving the dream in generally, to show that everything is possible when you work hard." Khris said.
The previous world record for a so-called "drop" was held by American skateboarder Danny Way.
