Rameswaram:
Twenty-four Indian fishermen were arrested and six mechanised boats seized allegedly by the Sri Lankan Navy from Rameswaram near Kachatheevu on Thursday, a Fisheries Inspector said.
According to Inspector Mohanan, fishermen in 600 boats were fishing in the area. Barring the 24, the others returned to shore.
Katchatheevu, in the Palk straits, is an uninhabited islet which was ceded to Sri Lanka by India under an agreement signed in 1974.
