Copenhagen:
Smoke inside a plane carrying 272 passengers and crew from New York to Copenhagen forced the aircraft to make an emergency landing in Maine, Scandinavian airline SAS said early on Thursday.
"There was smoke in part of the cabin ... and the plane made an undramatic emergency landing at Bangor airport in Maine," SAS spokesman Anders Lindstroem told AFP, stressing that there had not been an emergency evacuation of the plane and no one had been hurt.
The fully-booked Airbus A330 had taken off at around 5:00 pm local time (0230 IST on Thursday) from Newark Airport and had been in the air for about an hour when it was forced to make the emergency landing, he said.
"Technicians are onboard now investigating, and hotels have been arranged for all the passengers," Lindstroem said.
He said the airline was working hard to find alternative ways for the passengers to get to Copenhagen, where they had been supposed to land at around 7:30 am (1100 IST).
