A special cell was launched on Saturday for the early settlement of legal disputes filed by Chandigarh-origin Non-Resident Indians (NRIs), an official said.
"Problems of NRIs vary from property-related cases to matrimonial issues to various kinds of financial disputes. There are many cases in the past where they had lost their hard-earned money by falling prey to unscrupulous individuals or agents," a spokesman of the Chandigarh administration said.
He said NRIs and their relatives can approach the special cell for easy redressal and early settlements.
"NRI cell will provide reliable guidance and information, and try to reduce procedural delays in the solving of legal issues," he added.
The NRI cell is headed by a retired judge and comprises a senior superintendent of police, the Union Territory standing counsel and a representative of the NRIs.
The spokesman said one can just call the helpline number or send a complaint in writing by post or through an e-mail. Complaints can also be filed at Indian missions abroad.
