Statue of cop shot dead by Kasab to be unveiled on 26/11 anniversary
Mumbai: A memorial for slain policeman Tukaram Ombale will be unveiled at Girgaum Chowpatty here on the third anniversary of the 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks.

Ashoka Chakra awardee Ombale, who was assistant sub-inspector of police, was shot dead by terrorist Ajmal Kasab during the attacks in 2008.

"It is a matter of pride to be awarded the prestigious project of fabricating the bronze statue of Ombale who laid his life and nabbed the only alive terrorist of the Mumbai siege of 26/11," R Yawalkar of Yawalkar Statuary, a sculpting studio, told reporters here.

"The four-feet high statue was fabricated in clay on the basis of the approved photographs of Ombale and his uniform, which we procured from his daughter, Vaishali Ombale. After the clay model was completed, the family of the martyr, along with professor Shintre of J J School of Art and BMC officials, visited our studio," he said.

"They were extremely satisfied with the model. The J J School of Art has given a letter, expressing their approval with regard to the statue, The bronze statue of Ombale will be unveiled on November 26 at Girgaum Chowpatty," he said.

The memorial will be in the vicinity of another memorial for the braveheart, built by local BJP MLA Mangal Prabhat Lodha, which stands on the pavement along the road where the shootout took place.
