Rome:
An operation was under way on Saturday to evacuate more than 100 skiers trapped on the slopes of Cervinia in Italy because of a lift broken by high wind, national television reported.
Some 50 people have already been rescued from the resort in the country's northwest. "We are currently repatriating skiers to the valley," the ski resort said on its Twitter account.
Around 150 rescuers are working to move the skiers, who are stuck between two points of the lift -- between 2,550 metres (8,350 feet) and 2,800 metres -- to safety.
