New York: Former IMF chief Dominique Strauss-Kahn declined to pay the Guinean maid for sex and his refusal led her to accuse him of sexual assault, a media report said.

The 32-year-old maid at the Sofitel Hotel in Manhattan knew who Strauss-Kahn was and saw him as an opportunity to make money.

"She figured he's a rich dude and she would get paid," source close to the defence investigation told The New York Post. "She was told by the crew she ran with that this was a gold mine."

Strauss-Kahn, 62, was accused of forcing the maid to perform oral sex. He was taken into custody minutes before his Air France flight departed for Paris in May.

Strauss-Kahn has claimed that their sexual encounter was consensual.

In the new account of the story, The Post reported that the maid voluntarily performed oral sex on Strauss-Kahn, who then refused to pay her.

When she insisted, he brushed her off.

"There was an expectation of money after the fact, but he was dismissive," the source said.

Their argument may have been rough.

Her lawyer has said that Strauss-Kahn angrily grabbed her breasts and private parts, causing injuries. Following the explosive events, Strauss-Kahn bolted from the hotel.

Last week, the case against Strauss-Kahn unraveled quickly as it emerged the maid who accused him has been lying and has criminal connections.

On Friday, Strauss-Kahn was released from house arrest and is now allowed to travel inside the US.
