A strong explosion was heard in the Turkey capital on Friday after the army said it had seized power and declared martial law and a curfew, AFP journalists reported.
It was not immediately known what caused the explosion but jets that had been present in the skies throughout the late evening were still flying over Ankara.

In a statement released soon after the military was seen on streets, Prime Minister Binali Yildirim said the elected government was still in power.
