Akussera:
Giving a yet another strong sign that the LTTE may be down but still not out, at least 14 people were killed on Tuesday after a suspected Tamil Tiger suicide bomber triggered a blast in a Milad-un-Nabi procession in southern Sri Lanka.
A bomber on a bicycle blew himself up outside a mosque in Akussera town, about 160 km from Colombo. At least six government ministers were present at the time of the attack.
This attack comes even as Sri Lankan forces have been squeezing the LTTE into an ever-shrinking pocket in the jungles of Wanni. A minister was injured in the attack and five other Sri Lankan leaders had a narrow escape.
Though the Sri Lankan army says that LTTE is present only in the jungles of Wanni near Jaffna, an area of about 50 square kilometers, this attack is a reminder that their fire power is still not over.
