Suicide blast at NATO base in Kabul; 6 injured

Kabul: A suicide blast has taken place at one of the main bases of NATO in Kabul.

Taliban are claiming responsibility for the attack that wounded at least six people near Camp Phoenix, a logistics support base for US forces just outside Kabul.

NATO said the suicide bombing occurred at 8 am (0330 GMT) Friday.

Taliban spokesman Zabiullah Mujahid has said the attack was carried out by a car suicide bomber and targeted an international military convoy.

Abdul Ghafar Sayed Zada, chief of criminal investigation for Kabul police, said three civilians and three foreigners were injured.

Initial Reports also suggest the blast was followed by small arms fire. The area was sealed off by Western and Afghan forces.

The attack comes amid intense debate over US strategy in Afghanistan, with President Barack Obama yet to make a decision on troop numbers.
