Damascus : A Syrian aid worker has been killed by gunfire in the town of Douma, the Syrian Arab Red Crescent (SARC) announced on Wednesday, urging all parties to the conflict to protect its employees.
The volunteer worker, identified as Mohammed Ahmed al-Khadraa, was killed by gunfire in the town north of Damascus on Tuesday, while providing emergency assistance to the wounded, SARC said in a statement.
It said that another volunteer was wounded.
The SARC added that "21 volunteers remain besieged in Douma," without elaborating.
Four civilians were killed in the town on Tuesday, according to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights.
He urged the "relevant parties to investigate the killing and wounding" of the volunteers and to ensure the safety of Red Crescent workers in compliance with international conventions.
