Thimphu, Bhutan:
Three Indians have been detained in Bhutan for attempting to smuggle gold worth over Rs 40 lakhs at the international airport in Thimphu.
Two of the men were nabbed yesterday with gold worth Rs 14 lakhs at the Paro international airport while a day before, another Indian man was apprehended for attempting to smuggle Rs 29 lakhs worth of gold.
Local media reported that seven Indian men had been arrested in February for attempting to smuggle eight kilograms of gold into Bhutan through Paro airport. The racket was busted after customs officers apprehended four of them, the Kuensel newspaper reported.
The allowable limit to import gold into Bhutan as mandated by the Central Bank is 50 grams.
