Taipei: Taiwanese media say three people were killed and several injured when a man stabbed people at random on a subway train in the capital, Taipei.
The official Central News Agency says the attack occurred at about 4 p.m. Wednesday aboard a subway car on the city's southwestern Banqiao line.
Photos showed the floor of the car splattered with blood and strewn with backpacks and other items.
CNA listed the dead as a 47-year-old woman and two men aged 20 and 30.
Commercial cable news station TVBS and other stations listed 16 people as injured. It said the attacker appeared to be a 21-year-old male who reeked of alcohol and wielded a 10 centimetre-long (3 inch-long) knife.
They said the man was apprehended and being questioned by police.
