Beijing : An overseas rights group says three more Tibetan protesters shot and detained by Chinese authorities have died in jail after being denied medical treatment for their injuries, which would bring the death toll in recent violence to five.
The London-based Free Tibet on Wednesday identified the dead as 60-year-old Tsewang Gonpo, 42-year-old Yeshe and 18-year-old Jinpa Tharchin, who had joined about 100 Tibetans on Aug. 12 to protest the detention of a Tibetan village leader in Ganzi prefecture in the southwestern province of Sichuan.
The U.S.-backed broadcaster Radio Free Asia also reported the deaths.
Rights groups say police opened fire on the unarmed protesters, injuring 10 people. Free Tibet says two others had died earlier.
The Ganzi government and police did not respond to media inquiries by phone Thursday.
