Singapore:
Former Deputy Prime Minister Dr Tony Tan has been elected Singapore's seventh president, who won the four-cornered elections by a thin margin of 7,269 votes against his nearest rival.
Dr Tan, a veteran politician from the ruling People's Action Party (PAP), received 744,397 votes or 35.19 per cent of the 2.15 million votes polled on Saturday.
His nearest rival, Tan Cheng Bock- a former PAP member of parliament, received 737,128 votes or 34.85 per cent of the total votes.
In the first ever four-corner presidential election campaign, Tan Jee Say - a former civil servant and now a financial investment advisor, received 529,732 or 25.04 per cent of the votes.
Tan Kin Lian, a former executive of an insurance company, lost his deposit when he received only 4.91 per cent of the votes or 130,931 votes.
