Melbourne:
An investigation was underway on Thursday in the Australian city of Melbourne after a train overshot the end of a railway track and smashed into a bank, according to local media reports.
The incident occurred at Sandringham station on Wednesday evening, with no passengers onboard at the time.
Peter Moloney of Melbourne Metropolitan Fire Brigade said it was an unusual call out for fire crews.
"I've never seen any train go through any wall. It was... something different tonight," he said.
The train's windscreen was shattered in the crash and debris from the Bendigo Bank branch was scattered at the scene.
The driver was trying to turn the train around when the crash occurred, local media reported.
There was no disruption to services on the line on Thursday, officials said.
