Trinidad TV host arrested for airing rape video

Port-Of-Spain: The host of a popular TV crime show in Trinidad has been arrested months after showing a video of a mentally impaired teenage girl being raped.

Ian Alleyne was arrested late on Thursday after a 30-minute struggle with police that was broadcast live on TV as a few dozen fans demanded he be freed.

Defense lawyer Om Lalla said on Friday that Alleyne was later taken to the hospital for chest pains and remains there.

Mr Alleyne aired the rape video three times on his show "Crime Watch" late last year and later apologized after people protested against him. Police accuse him of violating a law that bans broadcasters from showing images of rape victims.

Alleyne's show is aired on CCN TV6. Company Chief Executive Officer Shida Bolai could not be reached for comment.
