Ankara, Turkey: Turkish media reports say Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu will call an emergency convention of his ruling party and announce that he is stepping down as premier, amid a growing rift with President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

Hurriyet newspaper said Davutoglu would make the announcement after a meeting with ruling-party executives today.

Davutoglu succeeded Erdogan as prime minister and leader of the ruling Justice and Development Party in 2014.

The two men have since grown apart, with their differences increasingly spilling into the public sphere.

Davutoglu's possible resignation comes at a time when Turkey is facing turmoil and an array of security threats.

The country, which is vying for EU membership, has witnesses several suicide bombings linked to ISIS or Kurdish militants.
