Peshawar:
Twin bomb blasts killed at least three people Friday in a remote area of northwest Pakistan, close to the restive tribal districts along the Afghan border, officials said.
Initial reports said the blasts took place near two mosques in the Baazdara area of northwestern Malakand region, senior local administration official Amjad Ali Khan told AFP.
"The blasts killed at least three people and wounded 17 others," Khan said, adding: "We don't know yet the exact nature of blasts whether they were planted or were suicidal."
He said the local officials are having problems reaching the far-flung, mountainous area and there is no mobile phone coverage.
A local police official Riaz Khan confirmed the blasts but put the death toll at five, saying that the explosions also injured 25 people.
Pakistan's northwest has long been plagued by Al Qaeda and Taliban linked militancy and the country's military has staged numerous operations against the insurgents.
