San Francisco: Twitter Inc said it appointed Google executive Omid Kordestani as its executive chairman.
Twitter's shares rose 2.4 per cent to $29.76 premarket after the company's newly appointed chief executive, Jack Dorsey, tweeted the appointment.
Mr Kordestani will no longer be affiliated with Google, a source familiar with the matter told Reuters.
Twitter had said it would look elsewhere for a chairman, seeking to allay concerns about co-founder Dorsey's dual role as head of the mobile payments company Square.
Mr Kordestani has been chief business officer at Google, now known as Alphabet Inc, since 2014, with responsibility for revenue, customer operations, marketing and partnerships. He joined Google in 1999, the company said on its website.
Google was not immediately available for comment.
