Kangaroo Island, Australia:
Two Indian students drowned on Sunday after being washed off rocks in South Australia. The men were part of a tour group visiting Vivonne Bay on Kangaroo Island.
"They were posing to take some photographs on the water's edge. There are some rocks out there. A large wave came along and swept two of the gentlemen off the rock into the water. They were submerged for a period of time and unfortunately when they surfaced they were both deceased," saide Constable Craig Oates of the South Australia Police, who is investigating the incident.
It's understood the 25 and 29 year old - both international students based in Melbourne - were not strong swimmers. Friends and family watched helplessly as they were swept into the ocean.
Police recovered the bodies from the water.
Locals say signs should be erected at the popular lookout warning visitors of the danger.
Kangaroo Island resident John Fernandez told the Australian Broadcasting Corporation on Monday that the swell on the island can be "quite violent".
"The waves, while they appear to be calm, can just wash up over rocks at various time so certainly a dangerous situation," he said.
Kangaroo Island Mayor Jane Bates sent her "sincere sympathies to the family."
The bodies will be repatriated to India.
