London:
British police were questioning four men in their 20s on suspicion of terrorism today, a day after shooting at one of their cars near the Tower of London.
Police said the four were arrested during a pre-planned, intelligence-led operation on Sunday. They did not identify the suspects or give details of the charges. The London police firearms unit took part in the arrests. British police rarely carry weapons and their involvement suggested concern that men might have been armed.
The Metropolitan Police said the men were all British nationals with roots in Turkey, Pakistan, Algeria and Azerbaijan.
Police said officers were searching six locations and two vehicles in London following the arrests.
Two 25-year-old men were arrested near the Tower of London after their car was fired on, police said. Two others, aged 28 and 29, were arrested separately elsewhere in London.
Witnesses said the major police operation stopped traffic for some time.
