The results of the election to the European Parliament have been catastrophic for the ruling Labour party in Britain. The PM Gordon Brown, already under tremendous pressure to step down, is facing renewed calls to resign.
The other big story emerging from the EU election is the rise of right wing anti-immigration parties across Europe.
The party that has won the last three elections in Britain is at a historic low on Gordon Brown's watch and it is yet another blow for a badly wounded PM.
These were elections for the European Parliament but the British voters used it to punish the ruling party Labour by knocking it into third place.
The crushing defeat was made more humiliating with Britain voting for racist anti-immigration party BNP giving them seats in EU Parliament for the first time. BNP's slogan is British jobs for British workers.
"It's very damaging for Britain, a country that's stood up for democracy over the last century, to see the BNP elected to the European Parliament." Said David Miliband, Foreign Secretary, UK.
But will all this be enough to unseat Gordon brown?
"There are lot of Labour MPs, ministers who think Gordon Brown will lead them to a crushing defeat but they are not entirely sure what the alternative is. They are almost in a state of despair. Some of these are trying to topple Gordon brown anyway because they think it must be better than where we are. And some are holding fire," said Gary Gibbon, Political Editor, Channel 4 News.
There is a Labour party meeting which will be unruly and could deal Gordon Brown a fatal blow. But the difficulty for Labour is they don't have a strong enough candidate to replace Brown otherwise given the amount of discontent against him he would have been history by now.
