Kiev: Ukraine announced on Monday it had recalled its ambassador to Moscow, a day after the flashpoint Crimea peninsula voted to break away and become part of Russia.

"Given the situation around Crimea and the need to discuss certain international aspects of this crisis, Ukraine is recalling its ambassador for consultations," the foreign ministry in Kiev said in a statement.
