Cairo: UN chief Ban Ki-moon Sunday urged action to prevent a "massacre" of civilians in the Syrian town Kobane, saying thousands of lives were at stake as jihadists battled Kurdish defenders.
"Thousands of lives are at stake. I once again call on all the parties to stand up to prevent a massacre of civilians in Kobane," Ban said.
