Zaatari Refugee Camp, Jordan : The new chief of the UN refugee agency says the world must find a fairer formula for sharing the burden of Syria's crisis, including resettling tens of thousands of war refugees from overwhelmed regional host countries.
Filippo Grandi spoke to reporters on Monday at the Zaatari refugee camp in northern Jordan, after a meeting with King Abdullah II.
Grandi also says the fate of 17,000 refugees stranded in a desert area on the Syrian-Jordanian border came up in those talks.
Jordan only admits about 50-100 refugees a day, after security checks. Jordan says it suspects supporters of the extremist group ISIS are among them.
Grandi says he urged Jordan to expedite admissions. The refugee agency says it does not want to set up a new camp on the border.
