Copenhagen: Yet another leaked report at the climate summit on the last day. This time a UN analysis, which indicates the best deal likely, will not keep the temperature rise below 2 degrees.
Even if countries implement their biggest pledges, a rise of 3 degrees is indicated, the UN report concluded. The climate convention secretariat have also confirmed that current pledges on cutting greenhouse gas emissions are almost certainly not enough to contain the average temperature rise within 2 degrees.
The analysis was based on a number of recent studies, notably the International Energy Agency's World Energy Outlook. The leaked UN analysis admits in private that the pledges made by world leaders is far less than what is necessary to save the earth.
