UN Security Council Soon to Have Six Female Members

The U.N. Security Council soon will have a record six female members.

Jordan, which holds a rotating spot on the council, this week appointed Dina Kawar as its representative to the U.N.

Jordan's U.N. mission said Friday that she is expected to arrive over the summer.

Kawar was Jordan's ambassador to France from 2001 to 2013.

U.S. ambassador Samantha Power is the only woman ambassador representing the council's five permanent members. Other female ambassadors on the 15-member Security Council are from Luxembourg, Lithuania, Nigeria and Argentina.
