US Ambassador to India visits Pak

New Delhi: The US Ambassador to India Timothy Roemer made a day long trip to Pakistan on Tuesday on his way back from a scheduled visit to Afghanistan.

The US embassy has said that he was there for consultations with his counterparts.

However, the visit may raise some eyebrows in Delhi because of its timing.

This, only days after the Indian Prime Minister had met Pak PM Gilani at the SAARC meet in Thimphu.

Hours after Ajmal Kasab was convicted on Tuesday, Pakistani PrimeMinister Yousuf Raza Gilani said that Prime Minister Manmohan Singh hadtold him that he trusted Pakistan to bring the perpetrators of 26/11 tojustice.

Referring to the recent meeting of the two PrimeMinisters in Bhutan, Gilani told Pakistan's National assembly, "When Isat with Manmohan Singh, he told me that he trusts me. He said that yousay that the culprits of the Mumbai incident will be brought to justiceand we trust you."

Meanwhile, the BJP raised questions in Parliament on the US involvement in the Indo-Pak peace process, contending that talks were being held only under US pressure.
