The United States has appointed a woman of Kashmiri-origin as a special representative to reach out to the Muslim world.
A notice issued by the State Department stated that Secretary of State Hillary Clinton has appointed Farah Pandit as in-charge of a new office that is responsible for outreach to Muslims around the world. Farah's family is no doubt very proud and said she was a born leader.
"Yesterday uncle called us and he told us about this news, so we all were very happy. We are really proud of her, having a sister like her," said Farah's cousin Maheen Pandith.
"We are very happy, the dynasty is happy. The entire Kashmir is proud of her," said Jamsheeda Nissar, another cousin of Farah.
There were celebrations for the Pandith family in Srinagar after the news that Farah Pandith has been appointment as the US Special Representative to Muslim Communities came in.
Farah was born in Srinagar in 1968 and left for America just a year later with her father. Now she has a challenging new job as the Obama administration tries to reach out to the Muslim world.
"I just met her three times in her life .She had come here in 1984 and 1992. I was a child those days and I had seen her in those days. She had come to our house and stayed with us in Sopore," said Maheen.
The family is proud. The entire dynasty is all praise for Farah and describe her as a born leader.
