Mumbai: The bag of an Indian-origin US-based woman, containing Indian and foreign currencies and three mobile phones collectively valued at Rs one lakh, was allegedly stolen from an autorickshaw in which she was travelling in suburban Bandra, police said yesterday.
"At about 5 pm yesterday, the victim, identified as Sonia Kaul (43) lost the Indian and US currencies, three mobile phones and other valuables collectively worth Rs one lakh," said Ashok Kadam, senior inspector at Kherwadi police station.
"The victim suspects that two persons on a bike were following the autorickshaw and they must have stolen the bag. Accordingly a theft case has been registered," Kadam added.
According to police, Sonia was travelling in an auto rickshaw with her male companion from Vile Parle to Bandra Link Road on Tuesday.
After a while, she could not trace her bag in the vehicle, following which she recalled that a bike was following them on Western Express Highway.
"She then approached the police station and lodged a complaint alleging that her bag was stolen by bike-borne thieves. We will go through the CCTV footages installed along the highway," Kadam said adding that, "All efforts are on to nab the accused."
