New Delhi: In what has come as somewhat of a surprise, a joint statement between US President Obama and Chinese President Hu Jintao on Tuesday says the two sides are ready to promote peace in South Asia.
The statement lists the situation in South Asia among regional and global challenges.
With a specific reference to India and Pakistan, the statement also says, "The two sides support the improvement and growth of relations between India and Pakistan. The two sides are ready to strengthen communication, dialogue and cooperation on issues related to South Asia and work together to promote peace, stability ad development in that region."
It is unusual for such references to be made and while the Indian government has not reacted officially, New Delhi is generally uncomfortable with such references.
