George Town: A US man beginning his Cayman Islands honeymoon has been arrested after customs officers allegedly found 50 rounds of ammunition in his luggage.
A government statement on Tuesday says the man is a 27-year-old from Wyoming. They did not release his name. He was arrested Saturday at the airport on the main island of Grand Cayman and was granted bail.
Customs officers allege they found 50 rounds of 9mm bullets when they searched his luggage. They say the Wyoming man told them he was visiting the British Caribbean islands on his honeymoon and had simply forgotten about the bullets.
Customs Collector Samantha Bennett says the "consequences of such ammunition falling into the wrong hands cannot be overlooked."
It's not clear if the man is still in the Cayman Islands.
