US: Iraqi Prime Minister Nominee Plans Fast Broad-Based Government

Washington: The United States congratulated Iraq's prime minister nominee today, and said he had promised to move quickly to set up an inclusive government strong enough to confront Islamist militants.

Vice President Joe Biden called Haider al-Abadi, the White House said, after he was tasked by Iraq's President Fuad Masum with setting up a new government to replace that of outgoing premier Nuri al-Maliki.
