Los Angeles:
A 21-year-old man has been sentenced to 40 years to life in prison for a shooting that wounded four people outside a Halloween party on the University of Southern California campus in 2012.
Brandon Spencer was convicted in February of four counts of attempted murder.
Prosecutors say Spencer was shooting at a rival gang member, hitting him and three others. They say the gang rival had wounded Spencer two years before.
City News Service reports Spencer pleaded for leniency in court on Friday, insisting he was not just a "gang-banger" and asking that he be given a second chance.
No one involved was a USC student but the shooting caused the university to beef up security and put restrictions on events held on the campus.
