New Delhi:
U.S. Senator Edward Kennedy, a major figure in the Democratic Party, died late on Tuesday, CNN said on Wednesday. He was 77.
Known as "Teddy," Edward was the youngest Kennedy brother who was left to head the family's political dynasty after his brothers President John F. Kennedy and Robert F. Kennedy were assassinated.
One of the most influential and longest-serving senators in U.S. history, Kennedy had been battling brain cancer, which was diagnosed in May 2008.
