US senator Lieberman asks Pak to prove innocence

Washington DC: As Pakistan continues to contradict the official American position on the Osama operation, what is clear is that in the aftermath of his killing the tensions between America and Pakistan are already rising. The US has suspended visa services across Pakistan.

Chairman of the Senate Homeland Security panel, Joe Lieberman, has been quick to put Islamabad on the mat. He has put the entire onus on the Pakistan government to prove how, when and why Osama came to be living in a mansion in the garrison town of Abbottabad.

"Pakistan must prove to the US that they didn't know that bin Laden was in the compound," said Lieberman.

The US on Monday said it was "inconceivable" that Osama bin Laden had no support system inside Pakistan. The Obama administration is investigating how the Al Qaeda chief was able to hold on in the country for so long.

The world's most dreaded terrorist was hunted down and killed in Abbottabad in a 40-minute operation by US forces early on Monday.
