US spies in Britain to foil possible Al Qaeda attack: Report

London: More than two dozen US spies are currently in Britain to foil any possible attack by terror network Al Qaeda, a media report said.

Some 25 CIA agents are roaming the streets of Britain with orders to report their intelligence findings to their US bosses in the wake of revelations of terror plot in Manchester masterminded by late Osama bin Laden and uncovered by America but not shared fully with the UK, the 'Daily Express' reported.

British spy agency MI5 was told of the so-called "Easter shopping" bomb plot, in which an Al Qaeda cell planned to blow up British landmarks, but they were not given any details, the newspaper said.

The main suspects were arrested in 2009 but then released as the US failed to give Britain enough information to secure convictions.

It emerged that US President Barack Obama's administration didn't disclose full details of the Manchester-based plotters because of fears it might compromise the raid on bin Laden's Pakistan lair, the report said.

Evidence found in the raid will help UK prosecutors secure a conviction against the men if they are found.

Tory MP Patrick Mercer said the US should offer "full disclosure" of its UK-based intelligence with Britain. "There is no room for mistrust," he was quoted as saying.
