America's leading Hindu scholars are urging tattoo artists to learn Sanskrit before etching the script onto their clients, after noticing misspelled texts on Rihanna and David Beckham's skin.
According to the experts, Beckham's tattoo tribute to his wife Victoria is incorrect as is one of Rihanna's new spiritual etchings, reported Contact Music.
"We are delighted that so many celebrities choose to pay tribute to Hinduism with tattoos but celebrity tattoo artists worldwide really should undertake some basic training in ancient Sanskrit language and culture to get them right. It must be embarrassing for the stars when they realise permanent marks on their skin are incorrect," said Rajan Zed, acclaimed Hindu scholar.
He adds, "Rihanna has two Sanskrit prayer tattoos, but her latest is misspelled. Victoria's name is in Devnagri script, which is commonly used to write Sanskrit. The tattoo on her husband David Beckham's left forearm misspells Victoria with an added 'h'- as in 'Vihctoria'."
Fortunately for stars like Jessica Alba,Angelina Jolie and Tommy Lee their prayer tattoos are spelled correctly.
