Returning from a leisurely vacation only to be met with the devastating sight of one's cherished home reduced to rubble is a nightmarish scenario that nobody could ever wish upon themselves. However, such a distressing ordeal became a harsh reality for a woman in Atlanta, United States, who discovered her home had been tragically and mistakenly demolished during her absence.
Atlanta homeowner Susan Hodgson told Fox News that he came back from vacation and found that a company named 'You Call It, We Haul It' accidentally demolished a home she owned.
"I'm just left with a big ole mess," Susan Hodgson said.
Ms Hodgson is still reeling from the shock of returning home from vacation to find her longtime family property reduced to a pile of rubble. It all started when she received a call from a neighbour while she was away. The neighbour informed Ms Hodgson that a crew had arrived and demolished the house, even though it was vacant.
"Did you hire somebody to tear your house down next door to me?' It's been boarded up for about 15 years, and I said 'no' and she said, 'Well, there's someone over here who just demolished the whole house and tore the entire house down," Ms Hodgson said.
Ms Hodgson says the workers got nasty when confronted.
"He told her to shut up and mind her own business," Ms Hodgson said.
So she sent a family member over.
"He said, 'well I want to see a permit or something' and the guy pulled it out and said, 'Oh, I'm at the wrong address' and he just packs everything up and leaves, and the house is just destroyed and gone," Ms Hodgson told Fox News.
The home sits on Lakewood Avenue in southwest Atlanta, and no one was living inside at the time.
"It's been boarded up for about 15 years, and we keep it boarded, covered, grass-cut, and the yard clean. The taxes are paid, and everything is up on it," Hodgson said.
