Victoria Beckham to Help United Nations Fight AIDS
UNAIDS has appointed Victoria Beckham as the goodwill ambassador.
United Nations: Victoria Beckham says she had to turn 40 to realize she has an obligation to help others, particularly women and children fighting disease.

The fashion designer and former pop star said Thursday she is determined do all she can to help prevent children from being born with the AIDS virus.

"This is the beginning of an important journey for me. As a woman and a mother I have a responsibility to support other women," she told reporters after being appointed an International Goodwill Ambassador with the UNAIDS program.

She said a recent trip to HIV clinics in Cape Town, South Africa, had been a life-changing experience. She said she wants to return many times and learn all she can.

Executive Director Michel Sidibe said he welcomed Beckham's involvement and commitment.
