Geneva, Switzerland:
A vintage steam-driven train crashed late on Saturday into a parked train vehicle south of the Swiss city of Zurich, injuring 16 people, police said.
The vintage 19th century train was carrying a total of 56 passengers to Zurich when it crashed shortly after 11:00 pm (2200 GMT) on Saturday, Zurich police said in a statement.
The train, coming from the picturesque Arthe-Goldau valley station in central Switzerland, had just left Sihlbrugg station when it rammed into the parked, bright yellow construction vehicle, police said.
"A total of 16 people were injured, including two train drivers," the statement said, adding that most had only been slightly wounded but that two were hurt more seriously.
The 40 people not harmed in the accident were taken on to Zurich by commuter train and a special bus.
Police spokesman Stefan Oberlin told AFP the train appeared to have been hired by a private group celebrating a birthday.
The cause of the accident remained unclear, police said, adding that the Swiss Transportation Safety Investigation Board (STSB) had launched an investigation.
